Our Story

How we think about a deck job

We build and repair decks for homeowners in and around Englewood, and most of us came up doing framing and general carpentry before deck work became the focus. Outdoor construction that has to survive real weather is a different problem than framing a wall inside a house.

If you're on this page, there's a good chance a board's gone spongy, a railing shifts when you lean on it, or the deck just looks tired and gray. Soft boards usually mean water's gotten into the joists underneath, so we pull decking until we find dry wood, not just where the stain looks bad on top. A railing that moves is almost always a post connection problem, and we rebuild the connection instead of tightening bolts that are already stripped out.

Why Choose Us

What you get when you hire us

None of this is complicated. It is mostly just doing what we said we would do.

Licensed & Insured

You're covered if something goes wrong on site, and the permit paperwork gets handled correctly. Ask and we'll show you the coverage before we start.

Permits Handled

Florida requires a permit for most elevated decks, and skipping that step can cost you when you sell the house. We file it, schedule the inspection, and make sure the framing passes before the boards go down.

Clean Job Sites

Deck demo leaves nails, screws and torn-up decking scattered across the yard if nobody bothers to clean it. We bag it, pull the stray fasteners out of the grass, and leave the site the way we found it.

Written Quotes

It breaks down materials, framing work and labor separately, so you're not guessing where the money's going. No verbal estimates that change once the job's underway.

Our Own Crew

The same people who framed your deck last month are the ones showing up on yours. That matters when the work depends on knowing how the last job was done.

Local to the Area

Salt air, humidity and afternoon storms wear on decks differently here than inland. We build and finish accordingly, from the fasteners we choose to the sealer we recommend.

Common Questions

Things people ask us

Questions about how we work and who's doing the job.

How long has this deck building business been operating?
Experience with deck construction matters more than a specific number of years, since framing methods and code requirements change over time. Asking directly about experience with the specific deck type planned, whether composite, elevated, or a pool deck, gets a more useful answer than a year count.
Is the crew that shows up an in-house crew or subcontractors?
Some deck builders use an in-house crew for every stage, from footings to final trim, which keeps the same people accountable start to finish. Others sub out specialty work like electrical for deck lighting, which is normal and worth asking about directly.
Can past deck projects be seen before hiring?
Photos of completed deck projects, ideally showing the framing stage as well as the finished boards, give a clearer picture of quality than finished photos alone. A deck builder should be able to show both on request.
Why choose a smaller deck builder over a large remodeling company?
A smaller, focused deck builder typically stays hands-on through each project rather than passing it through several layers of subcontractors. That often means faster communication and a crew that's more familiar with the specific deck being built.
Where is this deck building business based?
Being based near Englewood, FL means shorter drive times to nearby jobs and familiarity with the wind, humidity and soil conditions specific to this stretch of the Gulf Coast.
How far ahead do deck projects usually need to be booked?
Deck builders in coastal Florida tend to get busiest in the cooler months, roughly October through April, when working outside is more comfortable. Booking a few weeks ahead during that stretch is common, less so during peak summer heat.
Is the job site cleaned up after a deck build or repair?
Removing old decking, packaging and stray fasteners after a deck project is standard practice, not an added service. A finished job site should look like nothing changed except the deck itself.
What happens if something like landscaping or a fence gets damaged during construction?
A licensed and insured deck builder carries liability coverage for exactly this kind of accidental damage during construction. Any damage should be documented and addressed as part of the project, not left for the homeowner to absorb.
Will a deck builder finish a project another contractor started or left incomplete?
Picking up a deck project midway means first assessing whatever framing or decking is already in place, since not every previous contractor's work meets current code. Some of that existing work may need to be redone before continuing, which should be explained clearly before starting.
How can a homeowner tell if deck work is being done correctly?
Properly spaced joists, flashed ledger boards, footings poured below grade and correctly sized fasteners are the things a passed inspection actually checks for. Asking to see the framing before the decking boards go down is a reasonable request on any deck project.
